Kid Approved Valentine’s Day

A home-cooked Valentine’s Day dinner is a perfect opportunity to get the whole family together in the kitchen to make a special meal together. Maybe you go all out and make everything heart-shaped, or maybe cook an over-the-top meal for the special occasion, or maybe you prefer something simple that allows you to focus more on quality time together!

Regardless of how you’re celebrating, take the time to let the people in your life know you care. These are some of our favorites recipes that allow everyone to participate in dinner.

1. Spaghetti and Meatballs adapted from Barefoot Contessa
Meatballs are a spectacular job for kids, let them mix with their hands and then form the meatballs. If they don’t all turn out the same size it’s fine! Just cook the larger ones a little longer. You can also shape the meatballs into hearts if you’re feeling festive (a small heart shaped cookie cutter helps with this).
Spaghetti and Meatballs For a fun variation try Turkey Meatballs or Pesto Meatballs.

2. Homemade Calzones from Simply Scratch
This is sure to be a new family favorite. Use whatever fillings you like and let each person make their own. You can leave them open and have mini pizzas if you prefer or make them into hearts (use a pizza cutter to shape them perfectly)!

3. Slow-Cooker Spinach and Ricotta Lasagna adapted from Real Simple
Super simple and fun to make! Kids will love helping layer the cheese and sauce and since it’s in the slow cooker you’ll be free to spend that extra time together.
